Veggie Might Ingredients
Lentils, Barley, Spinach, Potatoes, Peas, Carrots, Corn, Flax Seed Oil and Sea Meal. This product is ideal for dogs that have trouble digesting protein or with kidney issues, and the perfect choice for those opting for a vegan lifestyle. Our belief is that dogs, being omnivores, would not thrive on a purely vegetarian diet, although they certainly could survive. That being said they love veggies, and this particular variety is a favored by many hard-core carnivorous canines.
Lentils:
An excellent source of non-animal derived protein, dogs love this legume for its crunch and natural nutty flavor. Lentils are an extremely nutrient dense protein rich food and contain high amounts of:
- Molybdenum which is necessary for nitrogen metabolism.
- Folate for red blood cells and prevents poor appetite or a loss of appetite.
- Copper to support iron usage.
- Manganese for collagen formation, lipid metabolism and healthy reproduction.
- Phosphorous for healthy teeth and bones and transference of energy.
- Iron for healthy red blood cells.
- B1 aids in the digestion of carbs and protein and a deficiency can cause stool eating, anorexia, muscle weakness and CNS disturbances.
- Pantothenic Acid aids with fatty acid synthesis and natural steroid production. It acts as a stress reducer and evens out blood sugar levels.
- Zinc for healthy skin and coat.
- Potassium for fluid balance and nerve function.
- B6 helps with metabolism of protein and amino acids and electrolyte balance. Too little B6 can lead to heart disease, tooth decay, dermatitis, anemia and lowered immunity.
Whole Grain Barley:
A healthful whole grain including the hull and the bran, and is an excellent source of good carbohydrates for energy. Additionally it contains high amount of trace minerals Selenium, Chromium and Magnesium as well as:
- B vitamins that the body uses for turning food into energy.
- Fiber that provides food for the “friendly” bacteria in the large intestine, byproducts of which create fuel for the liver cells and muscle and is shown to actually lower blood cholesterol levels.
- Molybdenum which is necessary for nitrogen metabolism.
- Manganese for collagen formation, lipid metabolism and healthy reproduction.
- Niacin which has numerous protective actions against cardiovascular risks.
Spinach:
Dark green leafy vegetables are among the most potent of nutritional foods, a single serving provides nearly every vitamin and mineral necessary for health, like:
- Vitamin A for a healthy immune system and also which helps prevent liver damage, blindness, deafness and infections.
- Vitamin E for healing, anti-aging and immune system boosts.
- Vitamin K which is essential for blood clotting and to prevent internal bleeding.
- Calcium for strong bones and teeth.
- Multiple B vitamins for energy.
Peas:
Provides protein and are a good source of:
- Vitamin A supports skeletal growth, immune system, vision and nerve function. A shortage of this can lead to skin lesions, liver damage, blindness, deafness, infection and night-hyperactivity.
- Fiber aids in the management of cholesterol and blood sugar.
- Potassium (see above).
Carrots:
Another antioxidant rich vegetable that dogs LOVE, providing them with lots of:
- Vitamin A for a healthy immune system and also which helps prevent liver damage, blindness, deafness and infections.
- Carotenoids which provide protection against cancer causing free-radicals
Whole White Potatoes:
We use fresh whole potatoes, scrub, lightly peel and dice them just before cooking to retain nutrients.
- Multiple B vitamins
- Potassium and natural sodium to maintain fluid balance for energy and cellular health.
- Iron for healthy red blood cells and cellular respiration.
- Magnesium is important for proper muscle and nerve function and if lacking can lead to convulsions and seizures.
- Vitamin C which helps with collagen formation and builds strong bones. It also prevents dental problems. Most dogs do not need a lot of vitamin C.
Whole Corn:
This delicious and nutrient rich vegetable gets a bad rap because it is often highly processed and over used in many pet foods. The common misconception that “my dog has a corn allergy” does not in fact apply to the actual vegetable, but instead to ingredients such as corn meal (especially those listed as the primary ingredient) Research has shown that corn improves overall nourishment, especially when combined with legumes (i.e. lentils), particularly minerals like zinc, calcium and iron, as well as overall energy and protein intake. Whole kernel corn is also rich in B Vitamins and anti-oxidants: containing all of the following phytonutrients:
- anthocyanins
- beta-carotene
- caffeic acid
- coumaric acid
- ferulic acid
- lutein
- syringic acid
- vanillic acid
- protocatechuic acid
- zeaxanthin
Flax Seed Oil:
Yet another source of anti-oxidants and phytonutrients, flax seed oil is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids for healthy skin and coat, and helps improve cardiovascular function. It is also a good source of essential amino acids, and is an anti-inflammatory that has been shown to help arthritis and prevent cancer. And flax seed oil contains:
- ALL of the essential vitamins and minerals required by dogs
Sea Meal:
Contains nutrients from the sea, namely kelp, which is a good source of essential vitamins and minerals. It is also an anti-oxidant that fights cancer. Particularly rich in:
- Iodine which is a component of thyroid hormones, which regulate metabolic rate. This is very important for overweight or lethargic dogs, or those on thyroid medications such as Soloxine.
